This is eerie and exciting. The radio telescope at White Lake??? Listening for the Big Bang?

  2. No idea what this is... but I love the way the starburst is echoed by the cloud. The light on the metal too. And a perfect crop. Tell us more...

  3. 'Dreamy' dish, Allison. Fabulous composition ... all that is 'man' juxtaposed in massive proportions against nature's beauty ... endless sky ... innocent clouds ... and a dazzling starbust!

  4. I hate when that happens! I just wrote a long comment and then forget to change the setting to wordpress and lost the comment when I clicked. Anyway, all of what everybody else said, and several of the principles in the essay on composition by Steve McCurry: https://elizabethyeoman.wordpress.com/2015/04/11/rules-of-composition-1/ and also I love how, as Barbara says, it is eerie, but the bright sunshine is a dramatic setting for such eeriness. Great photo!

  5. The majesty of this man-made dish against the deep blue sky is striking. That little puff of white cloud seems to emphasize the size of the thing. And you've caught the sparkle of sun shining through it (or is that reflection?) just perfectly. Interesting composition too, cutting out the edges so we have to imagine the rest of it and the surroundings. I'm curious as to what it's for!

  6. This is a radio telescope at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory at White Lake near Penticton. Quite an interesting place to visit!
